Pray First

January 8–28 2024

Prayer is our Priority

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

Prayer is our first response, not our last resort. There is no better way to begin our year than with 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. When we come together in prayer, it not only changes us, but invites God to work with power to change us and our communities.

Why Pray and Fast?

The power of prayer deepens our dependence on God and sharpens our faith. When we pray we choose to put everything in his hands knowing that he is working in every area of our lives and in those around us. We believe our requests go to a God who hears us and invites us to be intimately involved in his plan. For this reason, we pray in confidence knowing God is in control and working all things out for our good.

The act of fasting is a spiritual discipline, the purpose of which is training to become more like Jesus. The motivation of our fasting is to draw closer to the heart of God by breaking the power of the flesh in our life—our desires, sins, and cravings—and to feed on the Holy Spirit. Fasting is not about getting from God, but it is about getting to God. Some different types of fasting are: A Liquid Fast is drinking liquids only for a specific time period. A Partial Fast is abstaining from eating certain foods. For example: Daniel Fast. A Social Media Fast is choosing to abstain from certain technologies for a specific period of time.
