The Core 4

The Core Four is a Bible study series that was created to help people understand the basics of what it means to follow Jesus.

00

Introduction

Before we begin the Core Four, we like to explain that the Bible, first and foremost, is a narrative. Look at the very first verse in Genesis:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

The Bible is a story about God. It’s not an answer book to all our questions, although it will answer many of our questions. The Bible is not a book of a timeless truths, although there are many timeless truths found in the Bible. The Bible ultimately shows us who God is and how we participate in His story. The introduction will briefly unpack what it looks like to seek Him.

01

The Word

The Bible is God’s Word written for us. It was recorded by humans under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is without any error and is completely true and applicable to our daily lives. The Word study reveals that the Bible tells one unified story that leads us to Jesus and if we study it and commit our lives to reading it and practicing it every day, it will make us wise to see and to follow Jesus.

02

Salvation

The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation. Therefore, salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned through our own efforts. If we believe in Jesus and want to receive this gift, we are called to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins. We also receive the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comforts and guides every disciple of Jesus. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgment. He gives us spiritual gifts and makes us more like Christ.

03

The Cross

The Cross is an opportunity to walk through the journey of Jesus, from the Garden of Gethsemane to Golgotha. The reality is that most of us are familiar with the Passion of Christ, but we haven’t really taken the time to walk through it verse-by-verse to understand what Jesus went through and why. Therefore, we designed this study to help you connect personally with what Jesus did for you.

04

Lordship

We have been invited by Jesus to follow him and become his disciples. We make him the Lord of our lives and embrace the journey of becoming more like him everyday. As a result, the church is a community of baptized believers unified through faith in Jesus. It is committed to the teachings of Christ, obeying all of his commands, and bringing the Gospel to the world. The church works together in love and unity to glorify Jesus and make disciples of all nations.

Count the Cost

In Luke 9, Jesus encounters three different people and each of them are challenged to count the cost of what it means to be his disciple. Jesus truly wants us to consider carefully what it will cost to follow him, not just in the short-term, but for the rest of our lives. He is not another good thing you are adding to your busy life. He will be the first, the center, the Lord of your life.
